What is a Lagoon Closure?

Lagoon Closure
Each lagoon closure requires a unique approach.

A lagoon closure can occur for a variety of reasons, but mostly for cleaning purposes. Each closure requires a specialized approach relative to the lagoon considered. Every state has their own unique guidelines for the process of closing a lagoon, yet are generally pretty similar from one state to another. Alaska's guidance for closing lagoons explain, "although sewage lagoons are reviewed, authorized, and operated. under the wastewater regulations, lagoon closures in which the sludge is left in place must also meet the requirements for closing a sewage solids monofill under the solid waste regulations."
